1. Christmas on the Mountain

Christmas on the Mountain is one of the most popular family gateways in Leavenworth. Every year, the small town comes alive with holiday cheer, attracting visitors from all over.

If you’re looking for a festive and charming way to celebrate the holidays, this is the place for you! Visitors can take part in numerous activities including arts and crafts, photos with Santa Claus, carriage rides, ice skating, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more.

2. Skiing at Mission Ridge

Mission Ridge is a great place to take the family for a day of skiing. The views from the top of the mountain are stunning, and there are plenty of beginner-friendly slopes for little ones to enjoy.

If you’re looking for a challenge, there are also some more advanced runs. And don’t forget to warm up with a cup of hot cocoa in the lodge afterward!

Tucked away in the hills of Leavenworth is an igloo village that’s perfect for a winter family getaway. The village has 10 igloos, each with its private entrance, bathroom, and sleeping area. There’s also a communal fire pit and hot tub for everyone to enjoy.

8. Snow Tubing Hill at Sun Mountain Lodge

In the winter, Sun Mountain Lodge is a premier destination for downhill and cross-country skiing. But did you know that they also have a tubing hill? It’s the perfect activity for families with kids of all ages.

And afterward, you can warm up with a hot chocolate in the lodge. The Tubing Hill at Sun Mountain Lodge is open weekends from 10 am – 4 pm on Saturdays and Sundays from December 8th through March 4th. Tickets are $8 per person, $25 for two people, or $40 for four people. They offer discounted rates if you buy tickets online before your visit.

9. Ice Skating at Sun Mountain Lodge

The ninth gateway on our list is Ice Skating at Sun Mountain Lodge. This is a great activity for families because it is both fun and interactive.

It is also a great way to get some exercise while enjoying the beautiful scenery. The ice skating rink, known as Alpine Valley, is located inside the resort so you can enjoy all of the other amenities offered by Sun Mountain Lodge as well.

10. Polar Bear Plunge

Are you looking for a winter adventure the whole family can enjoy and perfect family gateways in Leavenworth? Then you’ll want to add the Polar Bear Plunge to your list! This activity is perfect for those who love a good challenge and are willing to take a dip in frigid waters. Plus, it’s a great way to raise money for a good cause.

The Polar Bear Plunge is an annual event that takes place in January. Participants must be at least 18 years old and must raise a minimum of $100 in pledges. Plungers will take a dip in the icy waters of Lake Wenatchee (located just outside of Leavenworth).

11. Ride on a Rail Car

Bring your children along on an old-fashioned rail car ride at the Leavenworth Train Depot. Your kids will love seeing how this once important mode of transportation was used back in the 1800s while learning about its history as well. There’s no better way to show them that they can go back in time with just one visit!

12. Downtown Trick or Treating

After dark every night during the Halloween season, downtown businesses offer free trick or treating on foot or by wagon (depending on which store you visit). It’s a fun way for kids to get dressed up and collect treats without having to walk far.
