Winters are here and so is snow; many people often love to explore skiing sporadically. However, they complain about overcrowded and explored places. If you’re an avid skier, you might have already explored some popular mountains and love to experience something new. We have curated a list of mountains from all around the world which have yet to come eye to eye for the public. So, make sure to add these amazing places to your bucket list for this winter season.

Portillo

Location: Chile

Portillo is one of the oldest Ski resorts in South America. You might have heard about Portillo before, but despite being known; these mountains are the least visited places for skiing. Therefore, if you’re planning to travel to a place away from the crowd, Portillo is the perfect place. The stunning beauty is yet to be explored by crowds, that means mountains are exclusively available for your skiing enjoyment. 

Mad River Glen

Location: Waits field, Vermont

The east coast mountain Gem Mad River Glen has only a few corporately-owned ski areas; moreover, it’s only of the few skier-only mountains left. They offer various options for beginners with 20% trails. However, snowmaking above 2300 ft is restricted. With gorgeous views and less crowded areas, Mad River Glen is one of the best places for skiing this winter season. 

Crystal Mountain

Location: Enumclaw, Washington

Crystal Mountain is the largest area for skiing in Washington state, but despite being the largest, it’s highly underrated.  It provides a stunning view of Mt. Rainier, which experiences 480 inches of rainfall annually. However, not only slopes, its B-lot winter RV parking has breathtaking views of mountains within distance to lifts. Those, who prefer lodges to slopes, can soak in the views with a stunning ride on Mt. Rainier Gondola. 

Marmot Basin

Location: Alberta, Canada

The mountain Marmot is located in Jasper National park; popularly known as part of the Canadian UNESCO Rockies world heritage site. The place has an abundance of dry and natural snow that makes skiing pretty smooth. Their longest run is 3.5 miles; they offer a wide range of difficulty levels of trails including 20% runs for beginners, 30% runs for intermediate, 20% runs for advanced level, and 20% for expert level. 

Lutsen Mountains

Location: Lutsen, Minnesota, US

The Midwest way is not much known to people for skiing, but you can explore its Lutsen mountain for skiing. The Lutsen Skiing resort is connected with four mountains and 95 runs. Moreover, the top view of Lake Superior is one of the most gorgeous places you’ll visit. Tourists can even explore 270 miles of country trails.

Alyeska Resort

Location: Girdwood, Alaska 

The Alyeska experience more than 600 inches of snowfall annually, they feature one of the most incredible scenery in the world alongside the ocean and glacier views. They have challenging skiing and runs. Those who are experts in skiing love to explore double-black diamond runs, heli-skiing, and cat skiing.  While in the evening, tourists can go hunting for northern lights across the sky, or you can even take a break from slopes and try the winter aerial tram that gives you a ride of top Mt. Alyeska with stunning views. 

Brian Head Resort

Location: Brian Head, Utah

Compared to Utah’s some major Ski mountains, the resort is lesser-known among crowds. However, despite being less explored, the place boasts its highest mountain base in the state. The resort has two mountains- Navajo and Giant Steps, which connect to form 71 runs. The difficult level of trials is evenly spread across the area with 30% easy runs, 35% intermediate runs, and the remaining 35% are for experts. If you like snow tubing, you can explore the vertical 100-foot drop and long 600-foot slope at the Giant Steps tube hill. 

Borovets

Location: Bulgaria

Bulgaria ranks top when it comes to top unexplored and undiscovered ski resorts and mountains. Borovets is a stunning place for tourists with beginners skiing skills and international ski instructors who generally speak English. When it comes to Borovets, tourists have plenty of options to ski; moreover, you can get cheaper alternatives compared to others.

Les Houches

Location: France 

Though it’s not hidden or unexplored, due to the ski resort Chamonix located just 6 km away from the place, mostly tourists visit Chamonix. The beautiful resort is built with hamlets scattered over five thousand hectares. Les Houches has the backdrop of Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc, which truly makes this place one of its kind. It’s one of the best, less crowded and quiet resorts near Geneva. 

Grindelwald

Location: Switzerland 

The undiscovered yet lively place is the perfect destination for skiing. Grindelwald is surrounded by Monch, Wetterhorn, and other glaciers. The place is located on the north side of Eiger. It’s one of the unexplored and least visited Skiing places in Switzerland. However, like any other place in the heavenly country, Grindelwald is extremely beautiful and picturesque. For non-skiers, Grindelwald has 100 km of winter footpaths.
