What is the best time to visit the Sach Pass Trek?

The Sach Pass Trek is usually open for tourists and trekkers throughout the year. However due to Covid protocols and guidelines some changes and alterations might have been made. Before stepping out and starting the trekking you should always make sure to ask and inquire with the local guide about the availability of routes. 

  • Other than that the best time to visit this route is at the beginning of June to the month of July.
  •  You can trek on the Sach pass from July to  October of 15th or 16th. 
  • The seasonal snow starts melting away on the mountain ranges in the months of June and July.
  •  After October 15th the winter starts entering the region again. 
  • During the months of November and December the mountain ranges are covered in ice. 
  • The trails become extremely dangerous and slippery which can cause potential accidents.
  • The best month that you can choose to trekk on this trail is September.
  • During September the snow becomes hard and chances of slipping and accidents are extremely low.  Also the weather is beautiful and serene in the month of September.

The route that you can take to reach the Sach Pass.

  • Considering that you are travelling from Delhi you can start from your home in any automobile of your choice and reach Dharamashala. The place is also the abode of His Holiness Dalai Lama. In Dharamashala you can stay for a night or two. 
  • From Dharamshala you can travel to Chamba and stay there overnight.
  • From chamba people usually travel to traila which is at an elevation of 2500 metres from chamba. It is usually a five to six hours drive from Chamba to Traila. 
  • After this you can travel from Traila to Satrundi by passing through the beautiful village of Bhanodi.
  • Bhanodi is a picturesque hamlet where people go to experience the beautiful culture of the village.

What is the difficulty level of the Sach Pass Trek?

The Sach Pass Trek is usually considered to be an easy trek. The trek is a beginner level or a novice trek. Sometimes this route is also covered by advanced trekkers. Thus if you are a beginner then this trek is perfect for you to start your trekking journey. However even if you are an advanced trekker then this will be an easy ride for you.

What are the essential items that should be taken while trekking?

These are the essential equipment required for trekking.

Equipment List

  • You will need a rug Sack of 40-50 litres.
  • Make sure you have a water bottle – 1 +1 litre which is not a cold drink or mineral water bottle. 
  • Buying good quality trekking shoes which will provide a good grip on ice is mandatory. Most of the accidents happen because of the wrong hiking gear. You should invest in buying high ankle and waterproof shoes.
  • Pack two or three pairs of t-shirts which are full sleeved and preferably quick drying ones.
  • Pack two or three lightweight trekking pants that are of good quality. They should be waterproof and quick drying.
  • Make sure to take a sun cap and sunglasses which will protect your eyes from the scorching heat of the summer months and midday sun.
  • To make your journey more comfortable you can wear sports Inner or sports garments. The sports garments will protect your breasts or other parts from wear and tear and the trekking experience will be seamless.
  • Carrying a woolen cap or balaclava cum muffler is mandatory to protect your head and neck from the searing cold.
  • You can either carry a windcheater or a down jacket to shield yourself from the cold. 
  • Buy a down jacket or a feather jacket which is suitable for -5 degree Celsius  to – 10 degree Celsius.
  • Pack two pairs of socks and one pair of woolen socks.
  • To navigate through the deadly terrains at night you must carry a torch and a headlamp. The headlamp is a torch which is bound to your head so that your hands are free. Then you can walk at peace carefully through the mountainous terrains.
  • What is the fun in trekking if you don’t capture the beautiful moments? Do carry a camera. Most of the places have no access to towers or networks thus you should pack a power bank.  As an optional item you can carry a Tiffin box big enough to carry meals for one. 
  • Carry tissue Paper, polythene bags (reusable) Woolen Gloves, waterproof inners (optional).
  • The sunglasses that you carry should be uv protected. To protect yourself from cold you should carry an upper and lower thermal wear.
  • To clean yourself, carry hand Towels.
  • Some medicines that you should carry are
  • Carry paracetamol for fever and pain.
  • Take pain killers in case of injuries.
  • Pack Digene for acidity and stomach upset.
  • Carry a pack of Coca for respiratory issues.
  • Usually your trekking guide will carry all the medicine supplies,  but you should carry your own medicines in case you have any medical history of asthma ,migraine, epilepsy or other critical injuries.
  • Cold Cream, Sun Cream and other sun guards should be carried in your day pack.
  • You can carry walking Poles for extra support and flasks to keep your throat protected.
