Vellore Fort
Channa Bommi Nayaka and Thimma Reddy Nayaka built the Vellore fort during the fifteenth century. They are the chieftains of Sadashive Raya, the ruler of Vijayanagara at that time. It proves the military architecture in south India. It is one of the largest fort built in that time and is one of the unique forts in the country. The right centre of the city holds the majestic fore. The fort houses a giant moat at the entrance in which more than ten thousand five thousand crocodiles swim in early times. The first also has a temple. Lord Shiva as Jalagandeeswarar is the presiding god of the temple. It has well decorated and intrigued carvings on the wall. It exhibits the architectural skills and creativity of the workers in the Vijayanagara empire. Besides all the features, the fort has an inbuilt St.John’s church and mosque. It also has a museum of Archaeological Survey of India to demonstrate the history of the regiment.
