Beas Kund Trek

Do you want to go for an easy trek in the Himalayas? If yes, the Beas Kund trek is the answer you are looking for. It is one of the most famous treks in Manali. It takes you to the main source of the river which flows through the town. Beas Kund is situated in Kullu valley and is situated at 12140 ft. Above sea level.  Along with this, It is surrounded by green grasslands which flourish below the summits of the three highest mountains in Manali. And in between these beautiful grasslands emerges the beas lake. The breathtaking view of this calm body of water situated between mountain peaks of the Pir Panjal range adds to the beauty of this setting. 

It is said that the river is named after Rishi Ved Vyas. It merges with the river Sutlej in Punjab after passing through Himachal Pradesh. Various Himalayan tributaries are the source of the bias river, which becomes a massive river body with a length of 470 km and a drainage basin of 20,303 sq km. The river flows through the two most crucial valleys in the Himalayas is the Kangra valley and the Kullu valley. It is the main source of water for various cities and towns. Going to the origin of such an important river is fascinating. 

You should go for Beas Kund trek as it is one of the easiest treks around Manali coupled with breathtaking mesmerizing views of the pir panjal range. This trek takes you closer to the glaciers, peaks, and glacial lakes. You can also view the unusual landscapes which are present in between the trek. You can see amazing flora like rare medicinal herbs and exotic mushrooms when you are just a few kilometers into the trek.

This trek also offers you to get rich insights into the life of the local people of the Himalayas. Himachali people are very rich in culture and heartwarming. They are polite and lives at high altitude. During your trek, you will cross three villages Burua, Sannag, and Goshal villages.

What is the Tracking Route?

The trek begins from dhundi, which is about 12 km away from the Manali bus stand. And then you have to go to palchan village from dhundi. The trail is filled with mountains around and pine forests as you enter the Solang valley. You will have to reach dhundi to begin the hike.

To reach dhundi, you need to start the trek on the rocky path, and after 10 to 15 minutes, you will come across a gate situated on the right side and the path which continues on the left side. You need to follow the rocky path situated on the left side, which will take you to a stream. 

After following the trail for 5 to 10 minutes, you will come across the end of the trail. Just before the end of the trail, you will see a huge pine tree on the left side, and beside the pine tree starts a small trail that goes upwards through the forest. This trail will connect you to the main road. This main road will take you to a bridge which connects you with Rohtang Tunnel. You need to go to the road that goes downwards to the left of the bridge and then cross the river, which will take you to a wooden bridge. Dhundhi is just 10 minutes walking distance from the bridge. 

What are the Stay Options during the trek? 

You will need to stay somewhere during the trek. Various campsites offer Shared tent accommodations in beas khud trek. You can also carry your tents to be on the safer side like very few means of stay are available in this route.   Along with this, you should also carry enough water supply and food as there are no facilities out there. 

What is the Best time to go for the beas khud trek? 

Mid of may to mid of October month is the best time to go on this trek as the temperature is moderate and is ideal for getting breathtaking views of the landscapes. The temperature varies from 10 degrees to 25 degrees in the summer season. Whereas in the winter season, the winds are harsh, you can observe snowfall, and the temperature varies from 12 to 15 degrees in the month of November to February. 

What is the Difficulty level of the Beas Kund Trek? 

Beas Kund trek is termed as easy to moderate level of trekking. You start from Solang valley at 8156 ft and finish at 127772 ft at the highest point at Beas Kund. The trek can become a little tiring and tough as you have to trek around 4616 ft in three days of time. 

What Things must you carry? 

Below is the checklist of things you should carry for your Beas kund trek. 

  • Trekking shoes of good quality is a must.
  • Trekking gears and camping equipment.
  • Accessories like sunglasses, caps, rainwear, etc.
  • You should have Stock of warm clothes even if you are tacking in the summer season.
  • Medical and first aid kit for personal safety.
  • Flashlight along with extra batteries.
  • Water supply, food items, and other essential items. 

How to prepare for Beas Kund Trek? 

You should have a decent level of fitness for trekking in beas khud. It is a beginner-level trek; however, you will have to climb mountains with steep ascents. Lack of oxygen can cause breathlessness when you are at a high altitude. So you should prepare yourself to cover the distance of 6 to 8 kilometers in half an hour time. You should consistently work out and go on walking or jogging at least a month before the trek. 

What are all other points you should keep in mind? 

  • You should try to become accustomed to the climate conditions which prevail at the high altitude of the trek before beginning the journey.
  • You should never consume alcohol or other intoxicants during the trek.
  • It can be fatal to roam in the mountains around night, so you must avoid it.
  • You should not litter the mountains or campsite area.
