Best Places to visit in Karjat city

Karjat is a city in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. It is a place surrounded by hills, waterfalls and lakes. Karjat is located about 62 km from Mumbai and about 102 km from Pune. The distance between Karjat and Khandala (Lonavla) is around 30 km. Karjat has many places to visit that are famous for trekking and hiking.

Bahiri Cave

Bahiri Cave is a natural rock cave located in the village of Bahiri, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra and 73 km from Karjat. It has pilgrims and adventurers.

This famous tourist spot has several attractions for visitors to enjoy their trip to this place some of which are:

  • A large number of bats live inside this cave every day at night
  • It is the most difficult trekking and is not recommended for kids.

ND Studio

ND Studio, situated in Karjat, is a place to visit 10 km from Karjat city. This studio was established in the year 2005 by Desai.

ND Studio is home to many artists and filmmakers who come here to shoot movies, promotions and TV serials. The studio is blessed with open spaces and Havelis that are used as sets for shootings or workshops for artists working on films or advertisements.

Uksan Lake

Uksan Lake is a lake in Karjat, India. It is 65km from Karjat. The natural lake is surrounded by Uksan village and is known for its scenic beauty. It covers an area of 8 hectares (20 acres). A small dam has been constructed at the northern end of this lake which serves as a regulator for this catchment area and also supplies water to local communities through pipes which have been laid along with drains from this lake.

There are many temples located around this lake such as Shri Sai Baba Temple & Shri Dharmashala Temple (Khandoba).

Vikatgad Peb Fort

Vikatgad Fort is a hill fort located in Karjat city, Maharashtra. It is one of the most satisfactory treks to visit. Vikatgad Fort is located at a distance of 45 km (NH 48) from Karjat city and can be reached by road. Vikatgad Fort stands tall on the southern side of Western Ghats and offers breathtaking views of the valley below it. The construction of this fort took place during Shivaji’s reign and later on, it was captured by Mughals who then left for good after noticing how difficult it would be for them to attack this place from below due to its steep slopes.

Bhivpuri waterfalls

One of the best things about these waterfalls is that you can have a great view from the top of the hill. There are multiple stairs to climb, but it’s worth it. the distance between Bhivpuri and Kajrat is only 7km.

This place has amazing views and an interesting history behind it. It has many food outlets like tasty ice beverages and you can find both veg and non-veg items.

Kondana caves

Kondana caves are located in the village of Kondana, which is about 12 km from Kajrat. This cave has 16+ Buddhist caves.

The Kondana caves have been explored by archaeologists and historians for many years now. According to these studies, it has been concluded that these caves were used by humans as early as 30-40 thousand years ago.

Ulhas valley

Ulhas valley is a beautiful valley located in Karjat city. It is a popular tourist destination in Karjat city and has many scenic spots to visit. At Ulhas valley, you can witness the beauty of nature at its best with lush greenery, fresh air and cool weather all around. The Jain temple is located in Karjat. It is a very old temple. This temple has many visitors from different places to visit it and offer their prayers to the gods. There are many other temples in Karjat, but they are not as popular as this temple because most people love this one more than others.

Bhor Ghat

Bhor Ghat is a hill station on the Konkan coast of the Deccan plateau, India. Bhor Ghat has an average elevation of 622 metres (2,041 ft). It is situated on an east-facing ridge, with a view of Mahabaleshwar to its north and Panvel to its south.

There are several waterfalls around this place and many trekking trails lead into the forest from here. The most popular one is beyond Bhivpuri village which leads up to Vihar Dam over a 2-hour bus ride away from Bhor Ghat.

Kothaligad Fort

Kothaligad Fort is a hill fort in the Satara district of Maharashtra state in India. It is at an elevation of 903 m (3000 ft) above sea level and is located on the border between the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The Kothaligad Fort is one among many forts built by Shivaji Maharaj to deter Mughal attacks. The fort was originally called ‘Govindgad’ but later came to be known as ‘Vaidyanathgad’ or ‘Kotalgad’ (Kothala = Kothi + gadda = Fort.). Kotalgad has steep rocks on three sides with deep valleys on the front and backside respectively.
