Explore the top ten best airlines in India

Air travel has positively turned into the most favored method of voyaging and that relatively builds the market of the carrier business. Sitting in an airplane has always been a fascinating dream for many. There still must be many people who have not experienced the journey of the airplane. Keeping aside the benefits of airplane journeys, people are always excited to travel through airplanes. 

Earlier traveling from one country to another in less time was a far-fetched dream. But now with thousands of flights all across the world, traveling from one corner of the world to another is a matter of hours. India has a flourishing business sector for the aircraft business with a critical expansion in the number of air travelers going for both relaxation and business purposes. The developing traffic brings about sound contests between different carriers with every one of the aircraft attempting to work on its administration, network, timeliness, charges, and in-flight benefits too to catch a greater portion of the market and be named as the best aircraft. 

  • IndiGo

The airline was founded in 2006 by Rahul Bhatia of InterGlobe Enterprises and Rakesh Gangwal, a resident of the United States, as a private company. Indigo has been ranked 1st in the best low-cost carriers in India. A month after taking delivery of its first aircraft in 2006, the airline began operations in 2016. In 2012, the airline became the largest Indian carrier from a passenger market share perspective. In November 2015, the company went to Limited and issued shares to the public.

It holds a market share of 55.5% in India’s domestic market as of October 2020 and is the nation’s largest individual airline by passengers carried and fleet size. Indigo is also Asia’s largest individual low-cost carrier by aircraft fleet size and passenger traffic.

As of today, Indigo Airlines operates flights to 87 destinations, including 63 domestic and 24 international flight destinations from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. The airline ranks seventh in Asia with over 46 million passengers in 2017. Indigo is the foremost airline for people as people are always sure to receive a warm welcome and all the facilities with kindness. 

  • Air India

It was founded in 1932 as Tata Airlines by J R D Tata After World War II, it became a public limited company and became Air India. The airline is currently owned by Air India Limited, which is a government-owned company.

It flies to 103 destinations with international flights to 45 cities in 31 countries and domestic flights to 58 cities. The airline has 18.6% of the market share in the international market of India.

A star alliance member since July 11, 2014, Air India also has two subsidiaries, Alliance Air and Air India Express that fly domestically and in Asia. Most of the airline’s flights originate from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport. It is the most preferred airplane brand for people as it treats people with kindness.  

  • Vistara

As of September 2018, Vistara is ranked as number three in a list of the best airlines in India. They were founded as a joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, Tata SIA Airlines Limited in 2013.

Its headquarters are in Gurgaon and the airline began operations on 9 January 2015 with flights between Delhi and Mumbai. By June 2016, the airline had carried more than 20 lakhs passengers and held a 4% share of the domestic market. According to 2019 reports Vistara is having a Boeing 737-800NG aircraft and a fleet of Airbus A320 and has been serving 33 destinations which include four international destinations. Vistara is also gaining high importance as it has improved its services from before. 

  • SpiceJet

Ajay Singh acquired Spicejet in 2004 and it became an Indian low-cost airline. Spicejet was founded in 1994 as Air Taxi provider ModiLuft. The company changed its name to Spicejet in 2004. Since its launch in May 2005, the airline has grown to become the second-biggest carrier in India in terms of passenger traffic. It has 13.6% of the market share in terms of passengers.

There are 630 flights scheduled daily between Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. The airline has a fleet of Boeing 737s and Bombardier Dash-8 aircraft and operates in India and internationally.

  • Air India Express

Air India Express ranks fifth in the list of India’s best airlines. The airline is operated by Air India Express Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the country’s national carrier, Air India.

Each week Air India Express flies to around 649 destinations, including some major destinations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The airline carries around 4.3 million passengers per year. There are 25 Boeing 737-800 aircraft in its fleet.

  • AirAsia India

The airline is a joint venture between Tata Sons and Air Asia Berhad with Tata Sons owning 87%, while AirAsia Investment Limited (Malaysia) owns the remaining 13%. With a base in Bangalore, AirAsia India became the fourth largest low-cost carrier in India in 2019. The airline has a market share of five percent as of the end of the 2019 financial year. The best thing is that it operates 200 daily flights. It connects the country with 21 destinations across India. It also has a fleet of Airbus A320-200 aircraft. 

  • GoAir

GoAir was previously ranked number four in the list of Best Airlines in India but is now ranked number seven. The airline was established in Nov 2005 by Indian businessman, Jeh Wadia. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Wadia Group. In 200 GoAir began its operations. It operates with 325 flights on a daily basis covering a total of 38 destinations which includes 11 international destinations and 27 domestic destinations. It has its hubs at Kannur, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi. 

  • Alliance Air

As part of the government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme, Alliance Air operates a majority of its flights on domestic routes in India. The airline was founded in 1996 and is a fully owned subsidiary of Air India Airlines. Providing its services all over India reaching almost 64 destinations. It delivers the services through major hubs located in Jaipur, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. It also operates 2 ATR 42-320 and 18 ATR 72-600. 

  • TruJet

TruJet is an Indian territorial aircraft established in March 2013 and began activity in July 2015 TruJet has been set up as a minimal expense transporter in giving network between Tier-2 urban areas from its center based at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. 

As of May 2019, TruJet flies to the 27 homegrown areas and has an armada size of 5 airplanes which incorporate 3 ATR 72-500 and 2 ATR 72-600. 

  • Star Air 

Star Air is an Indian worker carrier established in 2017 and began its activity in January 2019 from its center point at Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore, Karnataka. 

The carrier has begun activities, offering trips inside Karnataka state just as to adjoining Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat as a feature of the Central Government’s UDAN conspiracy. 

At this point, the aircraft flies to 6 homegrown objections all inside India, with its center at Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore. As of July 2019, Star Air has two Embraer ERJ-145s; every airplane is outfitted with 50 seats.
