The Red Fort has a huge history of being home to several famous Mughal Emperors and its renowned for its architecture too. The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built this magnificent fort in the year of 1639 when the Mughal army shifted to Delhi making it the capital. Since then, Mughals have used the fort as their main residence and have really worked hard on making it much more beautiful. Surrounded with lush greenery the fort is a masterpiece and the red stand stone walls are something which highly attracts tourists so much. The red fort has many museums to look at which consists of huge collections of traditional, ancient artifacts that were found int her region.

The fort is blessed with astonishing beauty and as it lies along the banks of holy river Yamuna, its beauty is juts remarkable. The architecture of this mesmerising fort is Ustad Ahmad Lahori. He was the same person who constructed the glorious Taj Mahal. The entire construction of the fort was supervised by the Emperor Shah Jahan himself and its construction started in the holy month of Muharram. The unique garden design of the fort is something which inspired the construction of several other gardens across the state and also in other regions. Initially the fort was also called as the blessed fort but due to the red sand stone huge walls which make the fort look unique in its own way with the red colour spread throughout the exterior of the fort it is now famously know as the red fort. The fort was also before known as the Quila-e-Mubarak and was a part of the medieval city of Shahjahanabad.

The fort is now a UNESCO world heritage site since 2007 and the magnificent monument will surely win your heart. The Red Fort covers an area of 254.67 acres with huge walls built by the Mughal rulers for protecting themselves from the enemy attacks. The shape of the fort is octagonal and just like some of the well renowned Mughal architectures, it too has domes and huge marbles structure with intricate carvings found in it. The floral decorations found here are surely awe-striking. On every Independence Day, the prime minister of India visits this fort to hoist the national flag and deliver a speech on the special day. For attracting much more tourists and letting them known about the fort’s speciality and its rich history a sound and light show is usually organised during the evenings which tells us about the Mughal Empire and their rule over the lands of Delhi.
